Dr. John R. Burroughs

Dr. John R. Burroughs

Dr. Burroughs grew up in Colorado Springs graduating from Air Academy High School. He then graduated with honors from the University of Texas. He completed his medical degree in 1993 at the highly selective Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine) in Maryland on a full Air Force scholarship. His follow-on transitional internship was surgically concentrated and was followed by an Ophthalmology residency in San Antonio, Texas. He served as a Chief Resident and as an instructor at the School of Aerospace Medicine. His skills and abilities in ophthalmic plastic surgery were recognized early in his training, and he was encouraged by his residency professors to seek subspecialty oculoplastic surgery training. In addition to his ophthalmic training, he received plastic surgery training from ophthalmic, ENT, and Facial Plastic surgeons in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. Between 1999-2004, he practiced in Florida as Chief of Ophthalmology and as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Eglin, AFB. Owing to his extensive oculoplastics experience, he became the military oculoplastics referral source for the multi-state region. In 2004, he received a meritorious service medal and honorable discharge from the USAF. He then completed a highly selective 2-year American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery fellowship in Facial and Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery in Salt Lake City, Utah. He served as Chief of Oculoplastics and Orbital Surgery at the Salt Lake VA hospital, and as an Adjunct Professor of Ophthalmology for the University of Utah. Dr. Burroughs was heavily recruited by numerous academic centers and his Utah practice enticed him to permanently join, but he instead returned to Colorado Springs in 2006. Since being back in Colorado, he was appointed an adjunct professor for Rocky Vista University Osteopathic Medical School.

Mackenzie, Patient Concierge

Mackenzie, Patient Concierge

Mackenzie is a new resident to Colorado Springs. She recently moved here at the start of 2017 and is enjoying the sunshine and the mountains. Mackenzie grew up in Illinois and attended college in the suburbs of Chicago. She graduated with a degree in Communication Arts with a Theatre concentration. Mackenzie considers herself a “Jack-of-all-trades,” in that, she has had many unique opportunities to work in a variety of fields due to the diversity that Communications entails.

After completing college, Mackenzie went to live in Northern Ireland as a missionary for a year (after going on three separate occasions for short-term missions trips during college). Mackenzie spent her year working as a charity youth worker in a small village called Kesh in County Fermanagh. She still in many ways, considers it a home away from home and a life-changing experience. After returning to Chicago she then decided to pursue a long-time goal of auditioning for Second City. She was accepted into their Professional Training Conservatory and completed a Certification in Improvisation as well. After hearing many positive accounts of friends who had been through a Ministry School in California called Bethel, Mackenzie decided to apply once she was done with the Second City Training Program. She was accepted into the School of Ministry at Bethel where she met her husband Steven. She and Steven were married in the summer of 2016 and then decided to move to Colorado Springs where Steven wanted to attend more schooling to become a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist to accompany his Master’s Degree in Kinesiology.

Mackenzie loves working with patients here at Springs Aesthetics and helping them before and after their surgery. She is profoundly thankful to also work for such a unique group of peers who make every day at work something to be celebrated and anticipated.
