Screenshot 8 8 15 3 47 PMDr. John Burroughs is a Colorado Springs Oculofacial Plastic surgeon.  One of the most common questions he gets asked during consultations is what can be done for saggy and baggy eyelids.  The eyes are the focal point of the face and where everyone first and primarily looks when interacting with us.  This patient had sagging upper eyelids and puffy lower eyelids from fat herniation.  She also didn’t like the puffy areas of her inner corner of her upper eyelids.  Also of note was asymmetry of the lower eyelid bags.  The patient was very pleased following and upper eyelid blepharoplasty to remove the excess skin and conservative medial upper eyelid fat sculpting.  The patient had an internal (transconjunctival) lower eyelid fat blepharoplasty with conservative sculpting and repositioning of the lower eyelid fat to make the transition between her eyelid and cheek more smooth.

A non-surgical option for her lower eyelid fat would have been to inject a dermal filler below the eyelid bags and into the tear trough dark circle area.  This approach is fantastic for many patients and offers a no downtime approach, but it has to be redone every 1-3 years while the surgery lasts upwards to 10 years or more.  A chemical or laser peel can smooth and tighten the skin, which is especially important following the fat removal/repositioning, but won’t get rid or hide the bags.  Are you tired of your eyelid sagging and/or bagginess?  Call for an appointment (719-473-8801) to go over your options?
