Dr. Burroughs has grown increasingly interested in the use of platelets over the last few years. PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma. Platelets are commonly known as the clot-makers to stop the bleeding after an injury. We are learning that platelets do much more creating exciting and novel uses in aesthetic medicine. Injuries stimulate signals and platelet aggregation at the site to release growth factors and attraction of stem cells to the area. Stem cells are the building blocks that repair damaged tissue. Stem cells and pluripotent and can turn into new skin, new bone, new cartilage and even new blood vessels.
