Dr. Burroughs has grown increasingly interested in the use of platelets over the last few years. PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma. Platelets are commonly known as the clot-makers to stop the bleeding after an injury. We are learning that platelets do much more creating exciting and novel uses in aesthetic medicine. Injuries stimulate signals and platelet aggregation at the site to release growth factors and attraction of stem cells to the area. Stem cells are the building blocks that repair damaged tissue. Stem cells and pluripotent and can turn into new skin, new bone, new cartilage and even new blood vessels. We now have the ability to amplify the body’s natural healing abilities by placing concentrated platelets into an area of injury. The injury can be from accidental trauma or from controlled procedural or surgical-induced trauma such as micro-needling, radiofrequency resurfacing, chemical peels, or laser treatments.

Forward thinking physicians have developed ways to make concentrated platelet solutions from whole blood make PRP in a doctor’s office. PRP is beginning to pick up in popularity for injection into injured areas (e.g., tendons) or arthritic joints to attract in stem cells. PRP can be applied directly onto an intentional, controlled injury such as after micro needling, to trick the body into producing new collagen.

PRP can also be very helpful for certain forms of hair loss, which is an affliction affecting millions. Dr. Burroughs will also be combining energy based treatments (e.g. Fractora Fractionated Radiofrequency Resurfacing and Facetite) with PRP to unleash the rejuvenating power of platelets to create an instant non-surgical face lift. He is excited to combine these approaches to facial rejuvenation as he feels they are synergistic to one another to produce faster healing with better final results.

PRP injections can also be helpful in combination with ThermiVA for vaginal rejuvenation treatments that help with vaginal dryness, dysorgasmia, painful intercourse, and stress urinary incontinence.   The exciting thing about ThermiVA is that it in painless and completely non-invasive with an over 90% “worth it” rating on RealSelf.com. ThermiVA also has absolutely no downtime and can improve the external appearance of the labia.

PRP injections can also be helpful for hair restoration in areas of hair thinning. Millions of both men and women suffer from alopecia and hair thinning. PRP is a “natural” approach that can stimulate hair to start to grow again and to help out scalp areas that have thinned. PRP can also be paired with at home treatments with “low level laser” energy with special LED light domes to further enhance and preserve the hair restoration benefits.   A couple of examples are the Theradome and IGrow systems.

Dr. Burroughs will be brining PRP in August 2017. He is one of only a small number of providers in Southern Colorado and Colorado Springs doing these treatments. He has carefully researched the available companies and techniques and is proud to bring Eclipse PRP treatments to Springs Aesthetics.
