This young female was concerned about the deep troughs and darkened areas under her eyes. She has not liked the step off from her cheek into the lower eyelid tissue nor the very dark lower eyelid skin. She had hyaluronic acid (HA), Belotero, placed to provide an improvement to the lower eyelid to cheek transition. This can be seen on the frontal gaze pictures below. This is what Dr. Burroughs of Springs Aesthetics has coined a “filler blepharoplasty.” It is a great technique that can non-surgically improve lower eyelid bagginess, darkened circles, and sunken in areas (“Tear Troughs”). A youthful eyelid has a gentle and smooth convexity continuum between the lower eyelid and cheek area without large step-offs.

Belotero is Dr. Burroughs preferred initial HA filler for the eyelids especially for first time “filler blepharoplasty” patients and those with exquisitely thin skin to avoid the blue tyndall effect that can be seen with other fillers. Results can last 1-2 years for Belotero and several years for Restylane, which Dr. Burroughs will also use depending upon the skin thickness of the patient’s eyelids and prior results with Belotero. Another great place for HA filler is in the brow tissue to enhance this area. The filler blepharoplasty is a great technique for those that don’t have the time for surgery or for those that the cost of a longer lasting surgical result is too high. The filler blepharoplasty technique can work so well that it can replace or delay surgery for many years, and sometimes is a great adjunct to surgery if patients have deep troughs and don’t have sufficient fat to reposition into the troughs.   This has become one of Dr. Burroughs’ most sought after non-surgical eyelid treatments because the results are immediate and quite long-lasting.

Seen below are her results, and she could stand to have some more filler, but she was delighted with the lightening of her lower eyelid skin, and the smoother lower eyelid skin and contour.
