REQUEST CONSULTATION

by Dr. Burroughs | Aug 22, 2015

Dr. John Burroughs is a Colorado Springs cosmetic and reconstructive surgeon subspecializing in ophthalmic and facial plastic surgery. Many of his most gratified patients are those that had presented with severe blepharoptosis (drooping of the eyelid margin).

This can cause them to not only look sleepy, disinterested, unintelligent, but also can cause significant visual problems for important activities such as reading and driving. This patient had long-standing severe ptosis that was causing significant visual loss. She underwent ptosis repair surgery, and has been very pleased with her result. Before surgery (top) you can see she was pulling upward with her eyebrows to see better. On the post picture (bottom) she is no longer having to try and stretch her eyelids more open by pulling with her eyebrows. She feels much better about her appearance and that she is a safer driver. Ptosis can be repaired by either an internal approach with no outside surgical scar or an external appearance whereby excess skin, fat bagginess can also be simultaneously addressed. Ptosis surgery can have up to a 25% reoperation rate, but Dr. Burroughs averages about 10%. Many factors can affect the success to include simultaneous other conditions such as thyroid disease, bleeding disorders, prior surgeries etc. Dr. Burroughs is often consulted to repair ptosis from other failed surgeries done at other practices as this is a very specialized form of eyelid surgery. He has also published textbook chapters on these repairs. Do you or someone you know have droopy eyelids? Call 719-473-8801 for a consultation.before and after ptosis
