Microneedling is based on the skin’s natural ability to repair itself. Microneedling treatments create superficial “micro-channels” to the outermost layer of the skin, inducing the healing process that creates new collagen production. Microneedling has been shown to reduce the visibility of acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles, diminish hyperpigmentation, and improve skin tone, color and texture.
Automated microneedling is an innovation in aesthetics for the treatment of large areas at a fast and comfortable manner. A sterile applicator containing 12 tiny micro-points is attached to the Eclipse MicroPen®. The pen will then be gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding until the entire treatment area has been covered. The skin’s repair process results in improvement of the appearance of softer wrinkles.
The Eclipse MicroPen® is the most advanced medical-grade automated micro-needling device on the market. Unlike Dermal Needling Rollers, the Eclipse MicroPen® device moves in a vertical direction for better precision when treating the skin. Dermal Needling rollers do not create a precise vertical action and this lack of precision can contribute to greater discomfort and inconsistent effects to the skin.
The full procedure takes, including the numbing, approximately 45 minutes to an hour. Generally, 2-4 treatments are advised, however, more may be necessary for some individuals and the results are additive. Most patients are red for 24-48 hours or less. That means you can get the procedure performed on a Friday and be typically back to normal for work on Monday.
Microneedling is effective, gives natural results, is safe for most skin types, has minimal downtime and minimal discomfort. Your skin will look younger with fewer signs of aging, creating a fresher appearance or glow.
Microneedling with PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)
Autologous Platelet-Rich Plasma, also known as PRP, is a high concentration of your own platelets in a small volume of plasma. The Platelet Rich Plasma procedure is an injection treatment whereby a person’s own blood is used. A fraction of blood (up to 20cc) is drawn up from the individual patient into a syringe. This is a relatively small amount compared to a blood donation, which can remove 500cc. The blood is spun in a special centrifuge to separate its components (Red Blood Cells, Platelet Rich Plasma, Platelet Poor Plasma and Buffy Coat). This spin process allows the platelets and factors to be concentrated about 4-6 fold. Platelets are very small cells in your blood that are involved in the clotting and healing process. When PRP is injected or applied topically into the damaged area it causes a mild inflammation that triggers the healing process. As the platelets organize in the treatment area they release a number of enzymes to promote healing and tissue responses including attracting stem cells and growth factors to repair the damaged area. As a result, new collagen begins to develop. As the collagen matures it begins to shrink causing the tightening and strengthening of the damaged area. When treating injured or sun and time damaged tissue, they can induce a remodeling of the tissue to a healthier and younger state.
The full Microneedling procedure with PRP takes approximately 45 minutes to an hour. Microneedling with PRP to the face is the so called “Vampire Facial,” while PRP injection combined with dermal fillers is known as the “Vampire Lift.” With PRP, the blood draw takes just a couple of minutes, followed immediately by a 10-minute centrifugation. The time involved in the application varies based on which procedure is being performed. We use a topical numbing cream prior to the procedure for your comfort. There may be some temporary discomfort or possible redness and inflammation at the application site. Your medical professional will create a treatment plan based on your individual needs. Touch up treatments for microneedling with PRP may be done once or twice a year after the initial group of treatments to boost and maintain the results. PRP injections into the desired areas of the face with filler typically boost the effect and longevity of the filler to 12-18 months.
PRP’s safety has been established for over 20 years for its wound healing properties and its proven effectiveness has extended across multiple medical specialties including cardiovascular surgery, orthopedics, sports medicine, podiatry, ENT, neurosurgery, dental and maxillofacial surgery (dental implants and sinus elevations), urology, dermatology (chronic wound healing), and ophthalmology, and cosmetic surgery. Since the autologous Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is produced from a patient’s own blood, there is minimized risk of an allergic reaction or rejection.
Areas typically treated for aesthetic purposes and skin rejuvenation include: Microneedling on facial areas, scar revision, and or stretch marks, crinkling skin around the eyes, cheeks and mid face, neck, jaw-line, chest and décolletage, back of hands and arms, lips and added after CO2 Laser treatments or Fractora radiofrequency resurfacing treatments. PRP is also injected to stimulate hair growth on the scalp. PRP can also improve dark under eye circles and the hollows. Almost all skin tones show that PRP is safe and effective because your own enriched plasma is used.
PRP has been shown to have overall rejuvenating effects on the skin including: Improving skin texture, improving pore size, thickness, fine lines and wrinkles, increasing volume via the increased production of collagen and Elastin, and by diminishing and improving the appearance of scars & acne scars. The most dramatic results to date have been the crepey skin problems in areas such as under the eyes, neck, and décolletage. It is not designed to replace cosmetic surgery as there are some cases where those procedures would be more appropriate.
Benefits of PRP: Along with the benefit of using your own tissue therefore virtually eliminating allergies, there is the added intrigue of mobilizing your own stem cells for your benefit. Other benefits include: minimal down time, minimal risk, short recovery time, natural looking results and no general anesthesia is required.
