Outturned lower eyelid after a cosmetic lower blepharoplasty. What Can Be Done?

Dr. Burroughs is an oculoplastic cosmetic and reconstructive surgeon. A part of his practice is to manage and repair surgical complications from other surgeons. This lady had been operated on by a well-respected facial plastic surgeon. Her surgery was complicated by excessive bleeding, and later by ectropion (out-turning of the left lower eyelid). This was not only unsightly to her, but bothered her in regards to a chronic redness, tearing, and discharge. She had some steroid injected into the lower eyelid by another oculoplastic surgeon without improvement, who had then recommended a skin graft. She was then referred to Dr. Burroughs as she wanted to avoid a skin graft repair if possible. Dr. Burroughs recommended she undergo a suture ectropion repair that he had published in 2003. Fortunately this was successful and she has been stable over 9 months out. She has been very grateful to have her eyelid repaired and feeling better and cosmetically looking better.
