Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) can be used in many concentrations, but it is most commonly used for superficial to medium-depth peeling. Fine surface wrinkles, superficial blemishes, and pigment problems are commonly treated with TCA. It may be safely performed at the time of surgery to enhance the overall results. Shown is a patient still healing from a TCA chemical peel. The dark brown areas are where the peel has not completed and is more wrinkled. The lighter colored areas are where the peel has completed, and the skin is smoother and has a more even, consistent skin coloration. Most peels are completed between 7-10 days.
